Episode 44: Beating the Homeschool Doldrums // Allowance
If you’re a homeschooling mama (or at home with your kiddos all the time), chances are that right about this time of year you’re feeling kind of stalled out, bored, or overwhelmed. This is what I call the “homeschool doldrums”, AKA Everyone-Feels-Like-Quitting-In-February. Today’s episode is chock full of encouragement for YOU!
Remember WHY you’re doing this
What did God show you before you started?
What do you want your kids to thrive in or avoid?
Write it down again if you need to
Take a break if you want!
3 day weekend, 4 day weekend, whole week off to regroup? Half days?
Catch up on household things that feel overwhelming when you’re trying to do that AND school at the same time
Drop all subjects but one
Focus on outside things for a week (build a snow fort, start a garden, depending on your location) Dress for the weather and get outside! Mom too.
Don’t judge your year based on how you feel in February.
Take a breather and adjust a few things as needed, don’t do a major overhaul or make huge decisions, and definitely don’t quit!
Remember the value God has on YOU as a mother and teacher:
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise
This is your blessing from the Lord today:
Isaiah 44: 1-8
1“But now hear, O Jacob my servant,
Israel whom I have chosen!
2Thus says the Lord who made you,
who formed you from the womb and will help you:
Fear not, O Jacob my servant,
Jeshurun whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring,
and my blessing on your descendants.
4They shall spring up among the grass
like willows by flowing streams.
5 This one will say, ‘I am the Lord’s,’
another will call on the name of Jacob,
and another will write on his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’
and name himself by the name of Israel.”
6Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel
and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
“I am the first and I am the last;
besides me there is no god.
7 Who is like me? Let him proclaim it.
Let him declare and set it before me,
since I appointed an ancient people.
Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen.
8Fear not, nor be afraid;
have I not told you from of old and declared it?
And you are my witnesses!
Is there a God besides me?
There is no Rock; I know not any.”
