Episode 41: How Moms Can Find Extra Helping Hands // How to Have Quality Time with Your Spouse when You don’t have Family or Babysitters Nearby to Help

How would you like to have a few extra helping hands around the house? What about an opportunity to inspire the next generation of mothers? Today we are going to talk all about how you might make this work in your family! And then we are going to chat about how to get quality time with your spouse when you have little children and not a lot of babysitting options. It’s going to be a great episode—I’m so glad you’re here!

Mother’s Helpers

How do you find one?

  • Church (check the nursery or toddler helpers)

  • Homeschool group

  • Ask some friends

  • Neighbors

  • Notice young ladies/girls around you who love little kids

    • Chances are there are several girls around you who would LOVE to get some baby and little kid play time!

  • What do THEY do?

    • Whatever you need!

      • Talk about it ahead of time, set expectations

      • Mostly watching kids or helping around the house? Both?

  • What do YOU do?

    • Live your life with more help!

    • Teach your helper your ways

      • Hold the baby like this to help her tummy

      • The toddler loves playing blocks

      • Can you take the kids to play in the backyard while I put the baby to bed?

      • I’d like these towels folded this way

      • Can you cut up some lettuce and tomato for a salad?

  • Some things to think about

    • What do you need them to do?

      • Play with kids? Work in the house? Both?

    • Do you want to pay them?

      • Discuss with them and parents—not the same as a babysitting gig

    • What frequency and duration do you need?

      • Weekly? Twice-weekly?

      • 2 hours? 4 hours?

      • Short-term or long-term?

    • Keep communication channels open!

      • Check in often (how are you doing with this?)

      • Assuming they’re young, communicate with parents too

      • Keep everyone’s expectations in the open (yours, parent’s, helper’s)

      • Change things as needed
